SERVICES TO THE FACULTY

CATALOGS
All books and audio-visual materials recently purchased are indexed in the Library's on-line public access catalog, which is also available on the VCCNet TPX menu for full-time faculty and staff and Internet through the Library WWW sites page http://lrc.dslcc.edu/Library.htm . The entire collection of a-v materials is indexed in The A-V Catalog, an annually revised listing in book form and also on the web page.  Instructions are available on the LRC web site to establish a connection for off-campus access for faculty, staff and students. The Commonwealth sponsored VIVA, an electronic library, provides over 200 databases, 10,000 full-text journals and 12,000 full-text monographs to faculty, staff and students via the remote access opportunity.

CIRCULATION OF BOOKS
Faculty members may check out books for two weeks, renewable for the same period if not requested by another borrower. Fines of five cents per day including weekends and holidays are charged for overdue books.

CIRCULATION OF A-V MATERIALS
Materials may be checked out at the Circulation Desk, or requested for booking in a campus classroom by telephoning.

Courier service provides a-v materials to the Rockbridge area via the Rockbridge Regional Center

CIRCULATION OF JOURNALS
Professional journals will be sent to faculty requesting placement on the routing list.

RESERVE BOOKS
Forms are available at the Circulation Desk for listing materials to be placed on restricted circulation or electronic reserve for your students. One-week advance notice will insure availability of material.

PURCHASE OF BOOKS
Books recommended by faculty as suitable for the library collection will be purchased contingent on fund availability. The Library can order personal copies of books for college staff at the Library's discount, but usually not so great as commercial vendors, e.g. Amazon.

PURCHASE OF A-V MATERIALS
All A-V materials, whether funded through the A-V budget, departmental budget, or grants, are ordered and inventoried by the LRC and housed behind the Circulation Desk. Current catalogs of published material are available for use in selecting materials for purchase, rental, or free-loan. Moreover, applicable catalogs and brochures are routed to faculty.

PREVIEW OF A-V MATERIALS
Facilities for viewing materials before classroom use, or for evaluating before purchase, are provided in the viewing booths in the library. All preview-for-purchase requests must originate with the LRC.

NEW ACQUISITIONS
A list of new LRC acquisitions is  found on the LRC web site. New books, ready for circulation, are displayed in the Reading Lounge.

PROFESSIONAL LITERATURE
The Library contains an excellent book collection in the field of education with emphasis on the two-year college. Subscriptions to two ERIC indexes, Resources in Education and Current Index to Journals in Education, are carried in electronic format and have full-text downloading capabilities.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Books or copies of journal articles not available in this library can be obtained through mail or FAX from other libraries. This service is available to any library user, and usually takes less than a week.

BIBLIOGRAPHIES
The Library staff will prepare bibliographies to your specifications.

INSTRUCTION IN LIBRARY USE
Each entering student is given a general introduction to the use of the Library and its resources by means of a taped tour and worksheet.  One-hour training sessions on Internet use are also offered on an optional basis.   More specific instruction by a staff member, on traditional library resources or electronic resources on the Internet,  either in the classroom or the Library, is available on request.   Like other Virginia community colleges, the LRC is actively engaged in the Commonwealth’s Information Literacy program.
