American Civil War Home Page:  Outstanding collection of web links to regimental histories, battle plans, documents from both North and South, biographical materials, soldiers' journals, image files, and more.
American Historical Association American Memory:  part of the American Digital Library Project of the Library of Congress, this site includes   digitized photographs, sound recordings, and more, including political speeches from WW I, Mathew Brady Civil War photos, oral history from the Federal Writers Project.
Britannica Guide to Black History‑‑click on Black History, then choose your time period to look at articles on topics (Brown v. Board of Education, Negro League, Freedmen's Bureau, African‑Methodist Episcopalian Church) or on important  individuals in politics, history, the arts, education, religion, etc.
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation:  Notable for its "Electronic Field Trips," and highly recommended by our history faculty.
Chronology of U.S. Historical Documents:  complete with linked texts.

University of Calgary History Department‑‑includes a guide to writing historical essays and book reviews, writing and multimedia tutorials, and more.

University of Washington History Department:  Notable for its "History Writing Center", which includes how‑to guides on writing test essays and papers, using primary vs. secondary sources, and evaluating evidence.  Highly recommended.

Condensed Chinese History for Beginners

Encyclopedia of the Orient‑‑covers the history and culture of countries which  we would call the middle east. 

Historical Text Archive‑‑a great collection of primary documents, world‑wide.
HyperHistory Online‑‑includes timelines, "lifelines" (as in who lived when), and historical maps.  The World History chart is a nice chronology, from David and Solomon through Roosevelt and Churchill.

American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works

Archival Data Online Repository‑‑will be a major source of important historical and social science data.  Already includes data on US civil disorders, 1961‑68, Russian and French bureaucracies of 18th and 19th centuries, and several other studies.

British Society of Sport History--prime source for the new course in sport history.

eHistory.com--Newly located at Ohio State University, this site "for history fans, enthusiasts and students," includes "over 130,000 pages of historical content; 5,300 timeline events; 800 battle outlines; 350 biographies; and thousands of images and maps."

FirstSearch‑‑web access to OCLC's collection of 65 databases, including Article First, Humanities Index (which indexes history journals), Social Sciences Index, Books in Print, Dissertation Abstracts, etc.

Handbook of Latin American Studies Online‑‑a major reference source, full-text.
History Matters--presents a wide range of materials for U.S. social history.  Designed for K-16 instructors, it is also a valuable source for students.
